Duck story about vanity and kindness
Percival the wood duck and Glimmer the rainbow trout live beside a mountain lake that reflects their beautiful appearances. Both enjoy showing off, but helping each other asks something different of them. Their encounter contrasts admiring a reflection with the warmth of a useful, caring action toward a friend.
Read and talk about vanity and kindness
The lake's reflections make the difference between appearance and action easy to discuss.
After reading, try asking: What matters more to a friend than an impressive reflection? Let your child point to a scene or describe a character’s choice in their own words.
