Picture addition at Otter Shell Shop

Two shell collections become one order at this little seaside shop. Otter Shell Shop gives children ages 5-6 a focused set of addition within 5 worksheets, using clear shell pictures and roomy answer spaces. Each activity keeps the total at five or below while changing how children show their thinking. The primary skill is simple picture mathematics: combining two groups and finding how many there are altogether.

What is inside the activity book?

The 10 black-and-white activity pages begin with tiny groups and a choice of totals. Next, children connect shell pictures to plus and equals signs, count on five-space trays and draw an extra group. Later pages ask them to match sums to totals, swap the two groups, complete missing parts and check practical shell orders. A final challenge brings counting, an unfinished order and an original two-group drawing together.

Three short shop stories pair a simple sentence with pictures and an equation. An adult can read these directions aloud, leaving the child free to count, draw and write. The book uses positive groups and totals from two to five; it does not introduce subtraction, money calculations or larger sums.

Using the printable pages at home

Choose one page or work through the sequence at a comfortable pace. Ask your child to point to each shell once, say the two group sizes and then describe the total. The missing-part pages leave open space for drawing additional shells. For the final task, different pairs can make five, so invite your child to explain the pair they chose.

Print the selected pages on A4 paper at actual size, checking your printer preview for safe margins. You can print the activity pages in black and white and keep the color cover optional. A pencil is enough to complete the exercises.
