Christmas picture book about being thankful
Mortimer Goldleaf has a mansion full of gold but finds little to appreciate. Santa's Christmas Eve visit brings a small tangerine rather than another grand possession. The fruit recalls a time when Mortimer had less and valued it differently, giving the story a concrete way to explore gratitude and the meaning of a gift.
Read and talk about gratitude
Being thankful can involve noticing the meaning of what is already present.
After reading, try asking: Why might a small tangerine mean something important to Mortimer? Let your child point to a scene or describe a character’s choice in their own words.
